About Orqa FPV

Founded in 2018 in Croatia, Orqa has grown from a hardware consulting firm into one of Europe’s leading drone technology companies. We design and manufacture advanced FPV and unmanned systems used by enterprise, industrial, and defense clients worldwide. With fully vertically integrated operations — covering design, electronics, optics, firmware, software, and in-house manufacturing — we maintain complete control over quality, performance, and supply chain reliability. This allows us to iterate quickly, optimize every part of the system, and deliver products that meet demanding real-world requirements. Today, Orqa products are used in more than 50 countries, with over 100,000 units delivered in 2024. Our mission is to build the enabling technologies for the future of Remote Reality and set new standards in the aerial robotics industry.

At Orqa, we’re building technology that allows humans and machines to see the world like never before. We bring together engineers, creators, and innovators who push the boundaries of what’s possible – from cutting-edge FPV systems to advanced Remote Reality solutions, and toward the next generation of robotics. And behind every great technology, there’s great organization.

We’re looking for a Junior/Mid Embedded Android/AOSP Developer to help configure, build, and optimize the custom operating systems that power Orqa’s next generation of drones, FPV systems, and remote reality platforms.

In this role, you’ll dive deep into the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), tailoring the OS directly to our proprietary hardware. Because we develop and manufacture our products in-house, you’ll have the unique opportunity to bridge the gap between low-level silicon and user-facing applications, working closely with multidisciplinary hardware and RF engineering teams every step of the way.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Configure, build, and maintain custom Android distributions from AOSP source code tailored to Orqa’s hardware products

  • Bring up Android on custom, proprietary hardware platforms and reference boards from the ground up

  • Develop, modify, and debug Android Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL) and integrate Linux kernel drivers (display, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth)

  • Optimize Android boot time, system resource usage, and critical video pipeline latency for real-time remote-reality applications

  • Maintain and customize SELinux policies, manage system-level permissions, and establish a reliable OTA (Over-the-Air) update pipeline

  • Modify the Android Framework layer (Java/C++ native services) to expose custom hardware features to internal application teams

  • Collaborate directly with hardware and RF engineers to debug signal paths and driver-level issues

WHAT WE EXPECT

  • Hands-on experience building, modifying, and deploying custom AOSP builds

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++, Java, and Go/Python (for build scripts)

  • Deep knowledge of Android build tools (GNU Make, Soong, Blueprint, and Repo)

  • Solid understanding of the Android subsystem architecture (Binder IPC, Android Framework, Native Daemons, and HAL)

  • Experience with Linux kernel configuration, device trees, and debugging embedded hardware

  • Mastery of debugging tools like adb, logcat, gdb, systrace, and perf

  • Professional working proficiency in English

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with video streaming protocols, codecs (H.264/H.265), or low-latency video pipelines

  • Familiarity with the Yocto Project or Linux kernel development (bridging the gap into pure Linux driver work)

  • Familiarity with Qualcomm, Mediatek, or NXP chipsets

  • Experience with low-level debugging tools like JTAG, logic analyzers, or oscilloscopes

  • A passion for drones, FPV, or aviation technology
