About Orqa FPV

Founded in 2018 in Croatia, Orqa has grown from a hardware consulting firm into one of Europe’s leading drone technology companies. We design and manufacture advanced FPV and unmanned systems used by enterprise, industrial, and defense clients worldwide. With fully vertically integrated operations — covering design, electronics, optics, firmware, software, and in-house manufacturing — we maintain complete control over quality, performance, and supply chain reliability. This allows us to iterate quickly, optimize every part of the system, and deliver products that meet demanding real-world requirements. Today, Orqa products are used in more than 50 countries, with over 100,000 units delivered in 2024. Our mission is to build the enabling technologies for the future of Remote Reality and set new standards in the aerial robotics industry.

At Orqa, we’re building technology that allows humans and machines to see the world like never before. We bring together engineers, creators, and innovators who push the boundaries of what’s possible - from cutting-edge FPV systems to advanced Remote Reality solutions, and toward the next generation of robotics. And behind every great technology, there’s great organization.

We're looking for an Electric Motor Tech Lead to help develop the next generation of propulsion motors for our UAV platforms.

This role combines hands-on electric motor design with system-level understanding of propulsion performance, testing, and manufacturability. You'll serve as Orqa's internal expert for electric motors, helping define motor architectures, optimize performance, validate designs, and prepare products for mass production.

Working closely with hardware, embedded, mechanical, manufacturing, and flight-test teams, you'll play a key role in shaping the propulsion technologies behind our future platforms.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and validation of BLDC motors for UAV propulsion systems

  • Define motor architectures and requirements related to efficiency, torque, RPM, thermal performance, weight, reliability, and manufacturability

  • Optimize motor designs, including stator and rotor configurations, winding strategies, magnets, cooling, and mechanical integration

  • Perform motor-propeller matching and propulsion performance optimization

  • Develop and execute motor testing and validation plans

  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous design improvements

  • Collaborate with embedded, power electronics, mechanical, manufacturing, and flight-test teams

  • Support production readiness, design-for-manufacturing activities, and quality requirements

  • Mentor engineers and help build Orqa's electric motor development capabilities

WHAT WE EXPECT

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong experience designing, testing, and validating BLDC or permanent magnet electric motors

  • Deep understanding of electric motor fundamentals, performance characteristics, and efficiency optimization

  • Hands-on experience with motor testing, instrumentation, and performance characterization

  • Understanding of electric propulsion systems and system-level trade-offs

  • Experience leading technical projects and collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams

  • Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting skills, and technical communication

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with UAV, aerospace, robotics, defense, automotive, or electric mobility applications

  • Experience with motor simulation and design tools such as Motor-CAD, Ansys Maxwell, JMAG, RMxprt, FEMM, or similar

  • Experience with thermal, vibration, structural, or rotor-dynamics analysis

  • Knowledge of ESCs, motor control strategies, and propulsion system integration

  • Experience with lightweight, high-efficiency motor design

  • Experience preparing products for manufacturing and production scaling

  • Experience building or leading engineering teams
